•This theory suggests that the male gaze denies women identity, regulating them to the status of objects to be admired for physical appearance.•It also suggests that women not only watch movies or the media from a secondary perspective but view themselves women from a mans perspective.
•Often in the media female characters has no real importance, it is the male characters that are the providers, the way women make the male characters feel or acting out their importance.
